Faith @ home

Encouraging and nurturing faith @ home is equally as important as growing Sunday Schools and after School groups. Educating people that faith is not just about Sundays but about all of our week, can be an amazing step in the faith journey of individual and the entire congregation.

Some resources to assist you in this are:

Faith Talk with Children

Faith Talk with Children is a collection of cards in a red wallet that encourages the family to engage in faith talk after dinner whilst sitting around the table. The questions are engaging and relevant to all ages. Faith Talk with Children cards are also terrific for commencing small group time at Kids Club or to commence Sunday School. They are a tool that is so useful in finding out where the children in your care are at, what kind of a day they have had and how they are feeling as well as helping to form bonds between you and your children. Faith Talk with Children cards are available from Kentigern Books and other good Christian retailers.

Family Matters, Mary Jo Zwar

This is a great book with many different ideas for how to incorporate faith into the family home more readily in this busy world we live in. For ideas on what to do when a pet dies, through to how to incorporate faith into a child's first day at school, Mary has looked at many aspects of our lives and suggests way that we can see God in them. Whilst I don't agree with all of Mary's ideas, I do think that this is a valuable book for thinking about rituals and routines for faith at home. Family Matters is available from Kentigern Books and other good Christian retailers.

Faith at Home by CECM, Synod of VicTas

If another Synod is doing it, and doing it so well, why not use their resource I say! ... CECM is developing its focus on Christian Education to help congregations and individuals live the Christian faith in everyday life — not just understand what it means! Practising the faith is a way for people and communities to reconnect with the core values and beliefs that are central to Christianity - for example, hospitality, community and justice - and to live those beliefs in ways that bring life to the world. The 'Faith at Home' resource offers activities that explore the practices of the faith. These activities emerge from the lectionary readings for each week and are simple ways for families and households to discover the rhythms and rituals that have shaped Christian faith for centuries. We hope that they are a means of grace for you.
