Time for leaders is an important component of Kids
Clubs. Some suggestions for making time for nurturing
leaders are:
- Before each Kids Club gather together in a circle
and hold hands, have someone say a short prayer, or
have each person pray for the person on their left/right
around the circle. This can be a simple way to remind
each other that you are a community gathering together
to share God's Love.
- After each Kids Club gather together to discuss
how the afternoon went: joys and concerns. Then close
in a short prayer.
- Create a prayer circle in your group and pray for
each other during the week
- Invite your Minister or an Elder to attend Kids
Club and at the end to lead you in a short devotion
(15 minutes at most). Remember that you need to grow
your own faith as well as the children's.
- Once every few months you might want to arrange
a get together with other Kids Club leaders in your
general area/presbytery to BYO lunch and discuss (informally)
games that you use, craft ideas you have had, etc
Share the information, don't expect that you have
to come up with all the ideas all the time. This can
also be a great opportunity for growing networks and
for learning that many Kids Clubs have similar issues
and concerns and that together we can work through
these.
- If people have email, form an egroup so that you
can communicate during the week at each persons convenience.
- Take time to keep up to speed with the children,
read the latest books that they are reading, see the
latest movie and discuss it with them, keep up to
date on the things that interest them. Obviously you
wont all have time for this so tag team
you might
find yourself being the latest member of the Harry
Potter fan club!
- Be there for each other and nurture each other.
- Praise each other when you see something that you
know that you enjoyed and the children enjoyed ...
it is not just the children who blossom with praise!
