| Commission
for School Education Associate Professor Rosemary Johnston, Chairperson This has been an exciting period for the Commission for School Education, which is actively seeking to build real connections with schools, church and community. From the end of 1999, the Commission has met on a regular basis (four times a year in 2000) with the Heads and Chairpersons of Councils, and has also had several smaller meetings with representative groups to discuss particular issues. The Commission has discontinued the practice of schools' reporting, but continues its function of reviewing nominations for the school councils. It is also seeking new and innovative ways of making the relationship with schools a dynamic, mutually enriching one. To that end, in 2001 it has introduced an Art Competition for schools. This will coincide with another activity of the church, a Seminar at the Centre for Ministry. The Commission values the individual Church schools and is currently exploring other ways of creative interaction, including a possible collaborative project. It is also mindful that a mandate for schools education should include wider educational issues, including religious education in public schools. The Commission continues to consider ways in which it can make a viable contribution in this important area. |
