of Continuing Education
Purpose
The School of Continuing
Education serves the church by encouraging excellence in ministry amongst
those in specified ministries in the Uniting Church Synod of New South
Wales, through the processes of continuing education for ministry. In
the Uniting Church specified ministries include Minister of the Word,
Deacon, Accredited Youth Worker, Community Minister and Lay Pastor.
Description
The School of Continuing
Education works towards this purpose by providing the following services:
- providing a service
of consultation relating to continuing education for those in specified
ministry, as well as for congregations, parishes and presbyteries;
- resourcing ministers
and presbyteries in the formation of continuing education learning agreements,
including conducting ministry development workshops;
- planning and staging
a selection of continuing education courses, including Intentional Interim
Ministry and, in partnership with the United Theological College, an
annual seminar week featuring overseas and local cutting edge speakers;
- providing information
on continuing education courses, conferences and resources through email
lists in 28 key ministry areas;
- in conjunction
with United Theological College, administering the Doctor of Ministry
program of San Francisco Theological Seminary in Australia;
- conducting research
into needs and developments in ministry and mission and their implications
for continuing education;
- cooperating with
other schools at the Centre for Ministry in developing educational opportunities
for the whole church;
- providing continuing
education scholarships;
- maintaining an
awareness of the trends in the discipline of continuing education through
contact with continuing education departments in other church and professional
organizations;
- developing policy
for the continuing education of those in specified ministries.
Location
The School of Continuing
Education is located about 30km west of the Sydney CBD, at the Centre
for Ministry North Parramatta, New South Wales. The School is one of four
working in cooperation at the Centre.
