Toward a Multicultural ChurchTowards a multicultural church cover

Myong Duk Yang: PCK Publishing House, 2009.

This book is about the multicultural Uniting Church in Australia. It consists twelve different chapters including Church Unity and the UCA, Present Growth and Future of the UCA, Multicultural Ministry, Education & Cross-cultural Theology, The Korean Churches in UCA and Mission in Korea and UCA. It also has translations of core documents of the church such as Basis of Union, Property Policy, Code of Ethics and Alternative regulations for Korean congregations. This book is written for Korean speaking members.

In his recommendation, Dr Clive Pearson says “Doing Theology Doing theology in one’s own language reflects better the nature of a church which lays claim to being ‘multicultural’ in what is a polylingual society. It allows people to use their language of the heart rather than the one in which they must function and ‘get by in’. Doing theology in one’s own language enables the ‘word to become flesh’ without intermediaries and being reliant on the good graces - or otherwise – of another culture and language group.”

Journal: Cross Culturecross culture journal

Vol 1, No 1, Pearson C ed, UTC, 2008.

At long last we are pleased to announce the arrival of a new journal.

Cross Culture is a theological journal designed to explore how faith is understood and ministry put into practice.

Its origins lie in personal experience, articles and anthologies as well as the establishment of subjects and degree courses in cross-cultural theology and ministry. Now we feel able to mount a journal which gives voice to generational, gender and ethnic difference.

The structure of the journal is built around articles, book reviews, resources and ‘telling tales’.

For the moment Cross Culture is produced out of United Theological College, Sydney, Australia. Our desire is to strengthen the editorial base with colleagues from beyond ourselves as well as encourage articles from an ever widening body of interested contributors. Our hope is for this journal to broaden its appeal and become ‘international’.

For the present we would like to encourage submission of articles and subscriptions.

In the first edition, articles include ‘The Quest for a Cross Cultural Theology’, ‘Amphibolous Faith: Reality is Multiple’ and ‘Shepherding for Christ’.
