an activity of the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of New South Wales and the ACT

The Communications Unit conducts media relations and provides publishing services for the Uniting Church. It also helps church and other organisations find affordable solutions to their communications problems — in the media, on the internet or with publications. By offering end-to-end — concept to final product — communications services we can help you identify and realise your specific communication goals.

The Australian Federal Government’s white paper on homelessness, The Road Home, aims to halve homelessness and eliminate rough sleepers in our nation by 2020. In June Insights, Kimberly Almarza and Lyndal Irons ask key service providers and researchers how the recession is affecting homeless people now?

In the June issue you’ll also get a taste for what will be on offer at the Parliament of Religions to be held in Australia in December and find out about how Carrington Road Uniting Church in Strathfield encourages diversity.

You can also read interesting reviews of: Warwick Thornton’s Cannes award-winning Australian movie Samson and Delilah and of a book by former Moderator of the Synod of New South Wales, Bill Adams, called Optimism for Troubled Times: A Reason for Confidence.

You can make a difference: Choose focus areas now!

Support the many faces of the Uniting Church’s mission and service by contributing to Living is Giving — the major way congregations contribute to the wider work of the Synod of New South Wales and the ACT. Decide which mission focus areas you and your congregation will support in 2009-10 and how much extra money you can commit. Also find the Living is Giving Handbook and Leader’s Guide and Planning Form online at http://livingisgiving.nsw.uca.org.au/.

Insights’ Volunteer Heroes – nominate yours!

You’ve got until June 22 to nominate the person in your Uniting Church congregation or organisation who makes a significant voluntary contribution to community service, social justice or welfare activities for the good of others.

Fill in the online form here telling us why this dedicated person should be honoured in Insights for their vital contribution.

The most outstanding Volunteer Hero stories and photos will feature in Insights magazine. And all the Volunteer Heroes will have their names listed on the Insights website.
