Maroubra Junction gets solar hot water
The congregation has implemented the next phase of “ Project Green Church” by installing two glistening solar hot water heaters, which will reduce power consumption to the extent that within seven years they will have paid for themselves. The choice to install solar hot water heating at Maroubra Junction Uniting Church was made even easier by Solahart’s ten per cent discount. As a gesture of support for Project Green Church, Solahart has extended this discount to all Uniting Church customers. The discount is applicable for both Uniting Church members’ homes and church buildings. Installing a solar water heater saves between three and four tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions for every year that you own it, and Solahart water heaters qualify for environmental incentives worth hundreds of dollars. Brian Callaghan, Solahart’s Manager for New South Wales and the ACT, said solar water heaters made sound environmental and economic sense. “Electric hot water systems account for about 30 per cent of total household power use, making them the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the home. Installing a solar hot water system is the single best thing that that a homeowner can do to reduce their ecological footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.
