The Transit Lounge targets students
A recent publicity campaign was carried out in February to promote The Transit Lounge to university students around the country.
The Transit Lounge is the Uniting Church National Assembly’s online magazine, produced collaboratively with the Synod of Western Australia.
Its aim is to help young people, who are not necessarily part of the church, to make sense of what it means to be Christian or on a spiritual path in contemporary society.
The Rev. Dr. John Hirt, Chaplains Coordinator for the Presbytery of Sydney, and other chaplains around the nation, handed brochures out at stalls and to Bible study groups.
Dr Hirt said the students’ first reaction was one of quizzical interest. “That the Uniting Church has been active in launching this kind of a campaign, principally reaching out to unchurched young adults in a way that’s not predictable and is edgy and inviting is commendable,” he said.
With its broad, non-sectarian focus The Transit Lounge is particularly relevant to educational settings where it can be accessed not just as an e-zine but also as an exciting resource. Its editors and contributors will this year be focusing on making it accessible and useable in a range of environments.
Created as a forum for exploring issues of faith and spirituality the e-zine is published fortnightly, with articles relating to a particular theme.
