The
Presbyterian Contribution:
Christians to celebrate their heritage Thousands of Christians have been invited to celebrate their Christian Heritage on Monday October 1, 2001, in a major Centenary Event in the heart of Sydney. Organisers the Festival of Light - Community Standards Organisation said, "Unfortunately the 'official' Government-sponsored Centenary Parades etc have ignored the outstanding contribution of the Christian churches, of all denominations, to our Australian pioneer history, growth and development. "There has been no reference to the Christian Affirmation in our Australian Commonwealth Constitution which states that the people of Australia from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, have joined together to form the new independent nation of Australia, 'Humbly relying on the blessing of Almighty God'. "The reference to Almighty God is very meaningful, as it is the name of the one true God of Creation, the God of Moses, Abraham, Joseph, Jacob, Peter and Paul, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." The Christian Heritage Celebration and Thanksgiving Centenary Parade will gather outside the NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street, Sydney, from 12 noon to 1 pm. Thousands of Christians are expected to assemble, with their local church banners, musicians, bands and floats. The Parade will begin at 1 pm and proceed along Macquarie Street, Hunter Street, George Street and Liverpool Street to Hyde Park for the Celebration at 2 pm. The Hyde Park Christian Centenary Celebration will take place near the War Memorial from 2 pm to 4 pm with Christian choirs, bands and statements by church and community leaders. FOL-CSO said, "It will provide a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to Almighty God for all His Blessings on our Australian nation and our Christian Churches."
